This policy:

  1. Establishes firm expectations that on-time school and class attendance is essential in sustaining the learning environment and in meeting individual learning needs.
  2. Provides flexibility to accommodate legitimate absence or lateness with a minimum of administrative procedure.
  3. Assures the timely flow of information from parents to school, and from school to parents about attendance at school and in class so that both can work to improve a situation before a student’s education suffers.
  4. Clearly defines the responsibilities of students, educators, and parents regarding student behavior, attendance, absences, tardiness and school events.

New students and their parents are encouraged to schedule a meeting or a telephone consultation with the School’s Principal before/after registration process.

ATTENDANCE

Parents/guardians are partners with the school and faculty in assuring that students have good attendance and arrive in class on time.

Encouraging regular school attendance is one of the most powerful ways you can prepare your child for success—both in school and in life. When you make school attendance a priority, you help your child get better grades, develop healthy life habits and avoid dangerous behavior.

When students are absent for fewer days, their grades and reading skills often improve. Students who attend school regularly also feel more connected to their community, develop important social skills and friendships.

But when kids are absent frequently, even when the absences are excused, it can have a negative impact. They have difficulty keeping up with their peers academically and tend to fall behind. This attendance policy is designed to foster a culture of learning at school.

PAYMENTS

Tuition must be paid in full by the 1st day of school. Payments may also be made in 2 (two) installments. The 1st installment payment is due on the last school day in September and the 2nd installment is due on the last school day in January. A late fee of $30.00 will be strictly applied for any payment received after the due dates. Please note that if your child is enrolled in the school or in the chess club but missed classes due to other commitments, there is no reimbursement for the missed days.

There is no refund after first 2 weeks of classes.

VOLUNTEER POLICY

Parents enrolling children at St. James Erebuni School are required to volunteer minimum 6 hours each school year. The objectives listed below are many of the reasons why St. James Erebuni School has adopted its volunteer policy.

  • The skills of our volunteers will help enrich our educational programs.
  • It will allow and encourage our parents to become involved in their children’s education.
  • It will help to improve communication between parents and teachers/staff and parents and other parents.
  • It will increase community involvement within our school.
  • It will lend support to the school’s goals and objectives.

The following are some of the tasks, which qualify for volunteer hours:

  1. Volunteers are needed for each school day to assist with recess, classroom teachers and assist on pizza days.
  2. Fundraisings and events
  3. Fieldtrips
  4. Communications

Emergency/Weather Cancellation Policy

KEY POINTS

  1. Students should be in school every scheduled Saturdays.
  2. Except in the case of excused late arrivals and early dismissals, students must be present in school from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
  3. Students are expected to attend every class meeting and activities
  4. Recognizing that there are legitimate and unavoidable reasons for absence, parents/guardians may contact the student’s teacher as soon as possible.
  5. Do your best not to miss any events organized by the school. Do not miss the Year-End Recital. But if for an acceptable reason your child is going to miss the Recital, please inform the teacher as soon as possible.

EXCUSED ABSENCES

  1. Students are responsible for make-up work associated with excused absences.
  2. If students are unable to come at this designated time, it is their own responsibility to arrange a time to collect make-up assignments from their teachers, and to turn them in.
  3. If a student is absent, make-up work must be turned in within one week of his/her return.
  4. Teachers will make reasonable efforts to help students make up missed work, but students, parents and guardians must understand that time lost from class is irretrievable. The more often a student is absent from class, the greater the likelihood that his or her learning and grades may suffer.
  5. When a student is going to be absent for more than 1 class, the parent must notify the teacher right away.
  6. Parent(s)/guardian(s) are encouraged to contact their child’s teacher regarding concerns about child’s attendance and education.
  7. If your child is enrolled in our school or/and in any of the after-school activities (chess, art, music) and you decide to drop the classes in January, St. James Erebuni School requires a WRITTEN NOTICE at least 2 weeks prior to your child’s last day of attendance in December.

DISMISSAL POLICY

Parents are required to pick up their children at the designated times. Once parents pick up their children they assume full responsibility and should not leave them unattended. This also applies to younger siblings. Parents are asked to enforce all SCHOOL RULES when on the school premises.

If someone other than the parent is to pick up a child, they should send a written note to the child’s teacher. If the name is not on the registration form and will only be for a particular day, the parent should deliver in person to the classroom teacher a written note including the day, complete name of the person and their relation to the child. This may not be done over the phone except for EMERGENCY CASES ONLY.

EARLY DISMISSAL- If a child is to be picked up EARLIER than the regular dismissal time the parent should physically pick up the children FROM THE CLASSROOM.

SCHOOL PARKING LOT

Please keep in mind that the parking lot is only for PICK UP/DROP OFF. The parking lot is not that big, so please be considerate of others. There is an additional parking in front of the main entrance on Mt. Auburn Street. Consider parking there as well.

Additionally, please don’t smoke in front of the entrance door. Parents and importantly students pass through those doors and it’s very unpleasant to walk through the smoke.

PHOTOS /VIDEOS & PUBLICATIONS

To keep privacy of others, any photos/videos or postings that contain St. James Erebuni words or school logo, should be approved by the School Principal before being posted on Internet.

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY

If we are unable to contact the parents or the emergency numbers, we will call an Ambulance to transport the child to Mt. Auburn Hospital.

PARENT-TEACHER ORGANIZATION

All parents are required to attend periodic meetings held by the PTO Meetings and are required to assist in fundraising events and activities held by the school.

CODE OF CONDUCT

FIVE GOLDEN RULES FOR STUDENTS:

  1. Respect Your Teachers and Your Classmates.
  2. Be Honest and Kind.
  3. Work Hard and Do Your Best.
  4. Take Care of Our School and the Church.
  5. Accept Responsibility For Your Actions.

Parental support is appreciated to encourage children to observe school rules and procedures. St. James Erebuni School will gladly work closely with parents to maintain responsible student behavior. Through communications with your child’s teacher, you will remain well informed and actively involved in your child’s education.

TERMINATION POLICY

St. James Erebuni Armenian School reserves the right to terminate any child’s enrollment. A child may be asked to leave the school for the following reasons:

  1. Constant disobedience by a child not being able to conform to the classroom rules set by the school.
  2. Extremely violent or aggressive behavior by the child, causing injury to other children or staff members, and damage to school property.

In the event that any of the above situations occurs, the following steps will be made:

  1. First, the parent will be notified verbally of the situation, and a meeting is held with the Principal, parents, and involved persons. A solution is discussed and parents are encouraged to resolve the situation. Also the school will inform parents of the availability of information and referral for other services and will provide the information upon the request of the parents.
  2. In the event that the situation still exists after 30 days and no improvement is seen, a written warning is sent to parents. And another meeting is held with the Principal, parents, and involved persons. Once again, solutions are suggested and a final warning is given.
  3. If the situation occurs again after final warning, the child will be terminated. The child will be asked to leave the school and no tuition refund will be given.
